andré geraissati - insight

another imaginative album from the fertile brazilian 80s, by guitarist andré geraissati, who played with egberto gismonti, ulisses rocha, and many others. it's also yet another entry touched by nando carneiro, who contributes synthesizer and percussion. the music here is mainly spare, generally presenting a kind of searching, expressive folk-to-jazz guitar, with the gaps filled in by aforementioned synth and percussion. somewhere in the region of picture music or the best windham hill album you can think of (other than interior - s/t), but gradually building in intensity. interesting design choices on the cover too, including a couple of embossed dots, a crookedly recessed "blank" area, and a tweaked tropical scene on the back.
