mini lp of filtered electronic works by californian producer austin cesear, who had a short but excellent run between 2012-2014 before removing himself from the arena (i did speak with him a couple of times and he did not seem too fussed about the whole thing). his current linkedin status notwithstanding (this is a joke), check out tracks like "easy bend" and "la paloma" to hear what he was about - well balanced grooves and fx to make your head spin. these works arrived around the same time as early material by huerco s and topdown dialectic, and in the wake of older artists like actress and newworldaquarium. eleven years on, we've heard this style both developed (namely by some of those aformentioned) and taken apart to fairly diffuse lengths. there is something to be said for the sharp and direct mode on display here, which strikes me as simply going for it because it sounds good, less aesthetic influence harvesting. it's enhanced by the thoughtful visuals contributed by the late paul clipson, both on the cover and in the video for "la paloma". recommended!
