charles austin & joe gallivan - mindscapes

also known as 'at last', this is a duo recording featuring charles austin on a number of instruments (soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, flute, alto flute, oboe, english horn) and his counterpart joe gallivan on percussion and moog synthesizer. it's the first of a series of collaborations that would see the two record for ogun, among several other labels, standing as an early high watermark in the fusion of jazz and electronics. austin's playing is spiritual and open, and gallivan manages the moog in quite a balanced, nuanced way, creating a backdrop of shadowy pulses that ripple and splinter.
