'le cœur partisan' is french singer claude antonini's second album, from 1979. it's an album with a worldly, personal/political perspective, voicing poetic lyrics by the likes of nazim hikmet and pablo neruda, and it's underlined by the combination of players, who are versed in tradition (both french and MENA) as well as some of the freest, outré jazz and improvisation. among other contributors, this album features didier levallet on bass, who played in confluence and perception, and with frank lowe and chris mcgregor. youval micenmacher, percussionist in arcane v, is also involved, as is bruno girard, violinist in the celestrial communication orchestra with alan silva. noted oud and oboe player fawzi al-aiedy also appears. it's an exceptional effort that encapsulates the free-flowing spirit of the age, hybridizing folk, chanson, and jazz with a questing desire.
