private soul jazz from riverside, ca, 1973, led by "successful realtor" and pianist devonne armstrong and featuring quinn harris on sax, flute, and vocals. harris is the big name here (his two seventies solo albums fetch considerable sums and have both been re-pressed in recent years - armstrong plays on 'statements'), and his fluid command helps push this beyond the local dinner club. the ten minute take on al green's "let's stay together", with its wiggly electric organ underpinning, is particularly inspired.
