creative female trio from montréal, featuring upfront sax by joane hétu, with a 1986 release that plays with some of its era's avantgarde trends, particularly new york ones with short reverbs, touching on the nascent hip-hop/drum machine culture and post-no wave crossover experiments/malfunctions. my tolerance for such things seems to be increasing, but if you're starting to shrug a few tracks in, i would advise you to stick it out, because this tweaky record's oblique sequencing and curious mixdown choices eventually form a brainteasing breadcrumb trail to the restrained, downbeat and jazzy, halfway point meditation "soliloque pour simone". it's such a nice interlude, and really helps its carnivalesque surroundings fall into place. side b is also encapsulated with relative restraint on "ode au parachute", albeit between spiky stabs and sputtering, phasing rx11. expressive material!
