afro (gambia)/jazz crossover group from chicago, with esteemed percussionists adam rudolph and hamid drake, foday musa suso on kora, and joe thomas on bass. in turns joyful, open, trancelike, these players sync well with don cherry's trumpet - i don't want to call his performance shy, because he is definitely on this record, but he isn't letting loose on top of everyone, and seems a respectful, patient guest part of the band instead.
