supposedly a "grotesque carnival", this 1987 performance by the two non-ganelin members of the ganelin trio is a lot more focused than that suggests. on the a-side, using "crudely dionysian, folk-oriented musical signatures", the mood is initially a little eerie, a little tentative, with a helix of sax, drums and synth eventually squiggling out in impressive unison. this unity is fleshed out more on the flip, with the squalls of squeaking synth forming an especially compelling counterpoint. one gradually gets the sense each instrument is mimicking the other's lines, and the "carnival" starts to make sense.
label: leo records - lr 160
condition: vg+/g+, with a little crackle which abates, seam fracture, foxing, and shelf wear to jacket.
