19/juke - pieces

part of a series of extremely well-promoted (within japan, anyway) 19/juke reissues from a few years back - which at one point seemed to be on display from the tiniest niche hole in the wall to the tower records in that shinjuku mall, and even making its way back to los angeles in the form of a t-shirt owned by someone who i would not associate with this kind of music at all, no offense - and one of three currently in stock in this store. 

as far as 'pieces' goes, i have to immediately direct the listener to the hypnotically intense a2, which is eighteen and a half minutes of cyclical chaos in the form of rolling drums and what sounds like chanting through a megaphone. truly mind-shredding stuff. i keep wanting to compare it to something on chain reaction although that is a fairly inappropriate citation (there isn't anything remotely deep going on here, at least not in terms of eq), but what i am trying to get at is the whirling dervish aspect. the track is a kind of chamber and it's going to relentlessly spin your brain around the entire time.

as bonuses: a1, transforming from a kind of jew's harp/digeridoo movement into something spindley and abrasive, and b1, which takes up the entire side with something resembling a revving powersaw/drill motor gradually entering a tunnel, boring the tunnel deeper, and then grinding its way out? if you don't understand this music, it's time to! one of the best records in the entire store!
